Protest Bush visit to London, 15 June, 5.00PM

This November 2010 video from the USA is about George Waterboarder Bush.

From the Stop the War Coalition and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in Britain:

BUSH DEMO: TIME CHANGE AND POLICE BAN

George Bush’s itinerary for his visit on Sunday 15 January is now confirmed. He is going to Downing Street for dinner and the Stop the War/CND demonstration has therefore been changed.

The protest now assembles at 5.00pm in Parliament Square.

Please publicise the changed time as widely as you can and encourage everyone you know who opposes George Bush’s endless warmongering, and the servile support he receives from the British government, to join us.

We have applied to demonstrate down Whitehall but so far the police, presumably under instructions from US security, are banning us. We are challenging the ban. Please send messages of complaint to the Home Secretary:

* Telephone: 020 7035 0198
* Fax: 020 7035 0900
* Email: indpublicenquiries@ind.homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk

You can also complain to the Metropolitan Police about the proposed ban: Telephone: 020 7230 1212.

Stop the War will also be organising a protest when George Bush goes to Windsor for tea with the Queen at 3.00pm.

  1. Democrats.com, the Aggressive Progressives – 500,000 strong and growing!

On Monday, Rep. Dennis Kucinich made history on the floor of the House by reading 35 Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush.

    At last!!!!!

We’ve waited years to find one Member of Congress brave enough to stand up for our Constitution, for which generations of Americans have fought and died. We are thrilled and honored that Dennis Kucinich has chosen to be that one genuine patriot.

We congratulate him on his historic leadership, and pledge to do everything in our power to persuade the House to adopt all 35 Articles and put George W. Bush on trial before the Senate of the United States, exactly as the Founding Fathers wanted.

Of course, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA-8), Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD-5), and Democratic Caucus Chair Rahm Emanuel (IL-5) all remain adamantly opposed to impeachment – despite the overwhelming evidence of High Crimes, including the “Phase II” report by the Senate Intellligence Committee and Scott McClellan’s new book.

And when Rep. Robert Wexler (FL-19) called for Judiciary Committee hearings on Kucinich’s Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Cheney in January, only 17 Democrats joined them: Neil Abercrombie (HI-1), Tammy Baldwin (WI-2), Michael Capuano (MA-8), Yvette Clarke (NY-11), Lacy Clay (MO-1), Steve Cohen (TN-9), Peter DeFazio (OR-4), Keith Ellison (MN-5), Sam Farr (CA-17), Raúl Grijalva (AZ-7), Luis Gutierrez (IL-4), Barbara Lee (CA-9), Gwen Moore (WI-4), Jim Moran (VA-8), Mike Thompson (CA-1), Ed Towns (NY-10), and Lynn Woolsey (CA-6).

So Kucinich’s heroic efforts will be in vain unless we inundate Congress with emails and calls (202-224-3121) showing our full support for Rep. Kucinich’s 35 Articles of Impeachment:

    BBC uncovers lost Iraq billions

    By Jane Corbin
    BBC News

A BBC investigation estimates that around $23bn (£11.75bn) may have been lost, stolen or just not properly accounted for in Iraq.

For the first time, the extent to which some private contractors have profited from the conflict and rebuilding has been researched by the BBC’s Panorama using US and Iraqi government sources.

A US gagging order is preventing discussion of the allegations.

The order applies to 70 court cases against some of the top US companies.

    War profiteering

While George Bush remains in the White House, it is unlikely the gagging orders will be lifted.

To date, no major US contractor faces trial for fraud or mismanagement in Iraq.

The president’s Democrat opponents are keeping up the pressure over war profiteering in Iraq.

Henry Waxman who chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform said: “The money that’s gone into waste, fraud and abuse under these contracts is just so outrageous, its egregious.

“It may well turn out to be the largest war profiteering in history.”

In the run-up to the invasion one of the most senior officials in charge of procurement in the Pentagon objected to a contract potentially worth seven billion that was given to Halliburton, a Texan company, which used to be run by Dick Cheney before he became vice-president.

Unusually only Halliburton got to bid – and won.

    Missing billions

The search for the missing billions also led the programme to a house in Acton in West London where Hazem Shalaan lived until he was appointed to the new Iraqi government as minister of defence in 2004.

He and his associates siphoned an estimated $1.2 billion out of the ministry.

They bought old military equipment from Poland but claimed for top class weapons.

Meanwhile they diverted money into their own accounts.

Judge Radhi al-Radhi of Iraq’s Commission for Public Integrity investigated.

He said: “I believe these people are criminals.

“They failed to rebuild the Ministry of Defence , and as a result the violence and the bloodshed went on and on – the murder of Iraqis and foreigners continues and they bear responsibility.”

Mr Shalaan was sentenced to two jail terms but he fled the country.

He said he was innocent and that it was all a plot against him by pro-Iranian MPs in the government.

There is an Interpol arrest out for him but he is on the run – using a private jet to move around the globe.

He stills owns commercial properties in the Marble Arch area of London.

  3. Stop War on Iran
    Help us mobilize NOW to

    Stop War on Iran!

We are writing because of the new and immediate danger of a U.S. attack on Iran, either directly by the Pentagon or through Israel.

In the next few weeks and months, we need your help to organize and mobilize a grassroots movement in opposition to another illegal U.S. war predicated on lies about “weapons of mass destruction.”

The real threat of such an attack was made clear last week, when Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, addressing a convention of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Washington DC, said that Iran’s nuclear program must be stopped by “all possible means.” Democrats and Republicans seemed united as they lined up to express unequivocal support for this position, presenting Iran’s totally legal development of nuclear energy as a dire threat to “world peace.”

This well-coordinated threat escalated after Olmert returned to Israel from his U.S. meetings. Within hours of his return, Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz called war against Iran “unavoidable.” Prime Minister Olmert then fanned the flames, echoing President Bush in saying, “All options, including the military option, must remain on the table.” Bush’s swing through European capitals took the same message of threats against Iran.

Meanwhile, the May 28 Asia Times On-Line reported that the Bush administration plans to launch an air strike against Iran within the next two months. According to the article, two key U.S. senators briefed on the attack, Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California and Senator Richard Lugar, Republican of Indiana, plan to go public with their opposition to the move. But their projected New York Times op-ed piece has yet to appear.

Even former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer warned in the Israeli daily Haaretz of June 1 that Bush and Olmert seem to be planning to end Iran’s nuclear program “by military, rather than by diplomatic means.”

The only real opposition to the growing danger of a new war will come from the grassroots, not from the politicians. It is imperative that we take this threat seriously and begin to mobilize now.

Stop War on Iran was the first international grassroots campaign launched to oppose the Bush Administration’s drive to war. Since our launch in 2005, we have generated more than half a million petitions sent to elected officials and the media. We have held meetings across the U.S. and have taken Stop War on Iran placards, literature and buttons to dozens of local and national antiwar rallies.

But it is clear that we must do more. This is a time when the grassroots movement cannot be silent. Over the next few weeks and months, we must do everything we can to mobilize to stop another criminal war for oil. We need your help – please sign the attached petition; help circulate it to friends, co-workers, and classmates; print it out and take it to your school, community center, union hall, or place of worship; and please consider making an emergency donation to help with the enormous expenses of printing literature and petitions, producing placards, and organizing meetings.

Sign the Petition – Tell Bush, Cheney, and Congress – Stop War on Iran!
