Afghan government says Bush administration lies on ‘Taliban weapons from Iran’

Will there be a US attack on Iran? This video is a CNN interview with Seymour Hersh of The New Yorker magazine.

Associated Press reports:

Afghan defence minister dismisses U.S. claims that Iran is arming Taliban

BRUSSELS, Belgium – Afghanistan‘s defence minister on Thursday dismissed claims by a top U.S. State Department official that there was “irrefutable evidence” that the Iranian government was providing arms to Taliban rebels.

“Actually, throughout, we have had good relations with Iran and we believe that the security and stability of Afghanistan are also in the interests of Iran,” Abdul Rahim Wardak told the Associated Press.

Like on many other issues, the US Bush administration lacks honesty and credibility on this issue.

Why would the very Shiite Islamic Iranian rulers, with their history of support to the anti Taliban Northern Alliance in Afghanistan long before the US supported them, support the very Sunni Taliban who see them as heretics?

However, to at least some people in the Bush administration, truth seems to be an extremely poor second to their will to provoke, by hook or by crook, a war with oil rich Iran.
