Waterbirds in a Dutch canal

The Leidsevaart is a canal in the Netherlands, from Leiden to Haarlem, dug in the seventeenth century.

Another name for it is Haarlemmertrekvaart.

In a part of this canal, from Warmond to Vogelenzang, nests of waterbirds have been counted.

There were 38 nests of great crested grebes; 19 of moorhens; 89 of coots.
