  1. Thought of you because I just saw a Townsend’s Warbler. I’ve never seen one before. The books say that they are somewhat common at the coast, but I am almost 20 miles inland. I have yet to hear about any truly unusual birds around here. I notice that yellow crowned sparrows did not leave in the fall. This is a sort of border area for them. They traditionally winter a little south of here, but the locals leave in November. This year, I have them in my yard. I’m also overrun with chickadees, who have almost pushed the house finches and gold finches away from the feeders. Slightly unusual year.
