From The Art Server in Belgium:

Flemish sculptor Rik Poot has died, 82 years old.

Poot, who became known through his monumental bronze sculptures and assemblages, often horses, but also people, especially women, was born in Vilvoorde and stayed there most of his life.

Rik Poot was Leftist, environmentalist, and secular.

He was from a working class neighbourhood, nicknamed the Vilvoorde Far West.

He opposed aggression and war, and his works honour the loser, what can be seen looking at the big, 9 meter high fist, which he made when management closed the Renault factory [cars in Vilvoorde].

The “Horsemen of the Apocalypse” in Brugues, “The rape of Europa”, the sculpture of a Brabant horse in Vilvoorde and “Ghequetst ben ic van binnen”, a sculpture which he made because of the Dutroux affair, are seen as characteristic for his work.
