USA: California police officer to Mel Gibson: You are an anti-Semite.
Gibson: No, I’m an alcoholic!
Florida police officer to Republican now ex Congressman Mark Foley: You are a pedophile.
Foley: No, I’m an alcoholic!
President Chavez of Venezuela to George W Bush: You are an alcoholic!

Someone supposedly asked Tony Blair, “How can you sleep at night? Knowing that you are responsible for the deaths of 100,000 innocent people?” To which Blair replied, “I think if you’d check the figures that it’s closer to 50,000.” An unauthenticated quote, but a good story.
Thanks for commenting, Jon. King Louis XIV of France seems to never actually have said “The state, that is me”; but many people nevertheless consider it typical for his style of government. As The Lancet says, the death toll in Iraq is now over 600,000. Compare also what Ms Albright replied when asked about the death of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children due to the embargo: “Yes, it is worth it”.

3. “I’m SHOCKED by the mistakes made by my subordinates”
4. “I’m deeply sorry for letting down my friends and family. I now
recognize that I am an alcoholic. I will be entering rehab immediately,
so I have no time for questions”
5. “Can I serve my time at Eglin Federal Penitentiary (aka Club Fed)?”
