PALESTINE: The Hamas administration in blockaded Gaza is expecting to receive over $250 million (£160m) for reconstruction projects under an agreement with the Qatari monarchy that is expected to be signed in about a week.

Hamas Minister of Housing and Public Work Yousef al-Mansi said the deal, which is still being finalised, will result in the construction of 5,000 new houses in the war-torn coastal enclave, while 55,000 will be repaired.

Hamas declared its support for the Syrian uprising against Syrian President Bashar Assad on Friday.
