Mammoth bone found on Texel island

This video, recorded in Russia, says about itself:

The story of the discovery of the world’s most complete baby mammoth, as told by the man who found her.

Translated from Blik op Nieuws in the Netherlands today:

Texel – A forester has found a mammoth bone in the dunes of Texel.

The mammoths are from the ice age. When were no Texel dunes there yet.

The bone probably came from the North Sea and beached. Then someone found it and probably left it behind in the dunes.

The bone is a carpal bone from a mammoth’s foreleg.

Lauwersmeer sea eaglet fledged

This is a Dutch regional TV video on the Lauwersmeer sea eaglet.

Translated from an e-mail from the Dutch Wadden Sea Conservation Society of today:

The sea eaglet in the Lauwersmeer nature reserve has fledged. Government foresters have found this out. The chick hatched in late April. It was the first successful breeding attempt of the white-tailed eagle couple in the Lauwersmeer.

The young sea eagle now is as big as its parents, which means it weighs about eight kilogram and has a wingspan of over two meters. The foresters would like to hear from birdwatchers whether they have seen the juvenile eagle. On the ring on the leg of the eagle there is the code A4Y1. This code is well noticeable for birders who are equipped with good binoculars.

January 2012: the young eagle is in the Zuidlaardermeer area.

Wilders supporters threaten Dutch social democrat immigrant woman MP

Dutch daily NRC Handelsblad today has an interview with Ms Nebahat Albayrak, the deputy leader of the Dutch social democrat party PvdA, the biggest opposition party.

The subject is the mass murder of Ms Albayrak’s fellow social democrats in Norway, and the xenophobic politics in the Netherlands of Geert Wilders (who supports the Dutch Rightist minority government without being formally part of the government coalition).

Translated from NRC Handelsblad:

In the interview with NRC editor Danielle Pinedo Albayrak said that Wilders creates false expectations in his electorate. Many of his proposals are not enforceable by law.

“Some [Wilders] voters understand this; they will settle for a watered down form of his program. But there are [Wilders] voters who do not. You can see where this leads to on their Internet forums: unspeakable. Ethnic minorities – Muslims in particular – get torrents of verbal abuse there.

I have given up counting how often I get abusive emails and threats. “Al-Qaeda cunt whore ‘, things like that.

In the twilight twisted parallel universe of those Wilders supporters, Ms Albayrak, a very secular Muslim woman (like her fellow MP of Turkish ancestry, in the D66 party, Fatma Koser Kaya) is “Al-Qaeda” just because her parents immigrated to the Netherlands from Turkey.

I consider this development to be a direct result of Wilders’ statements. There are people who think that what he calls for can be realized. On that point, he should start to be clear. “

Albayrak says in the interview that Wilders’ ideology may have an “unpredictable effect” on some individuals:

“Wilders is right to condemn Breivik’s actions now. But to say that there is no connection between his ideology and the ideas of the Norwegian: no.”

Iraqi refugee Breivik victim buried in Norway

Bano Rashid, Kurdish Iraqi refugee victim of Breivik

Bano’s Beautiful Face Seems To Shyly Ask The Question Why

Oslo : Norway | Jul 28, 2011

By Robert Weller

Her beautiful, smiling face, and rose next to it, stopped me short faster than Google could complete its translation of Norwegian into English.

“Sun Rays” Bano (18) will be the first to be buried. Yes, a Muslim.

She was [an] 18-year-old Kurdish refugee from Iraq, who for nearly 15 years had found peace in idyllic Norway. It is unlikely she ever expected to die the same the kind of death she might have if she had stayed home in the Middle East.

“There is no way to peace. Peace is is the way. Peace is life.” I found that on a Norwegian site. I can’t find it again.

Bano Rashid and her family had fled Iraq in 1996. She was thriving with her sister, and family, and thus earned the nickname Sun Rays. Her sister escaped the killing fields on Utoya Island. Her brother did not go to the Labor Party Youth Camp.

Meanwhile, Bano has been buried, as the first victim of racist socialist-hating mass murderer Anders Breivik.

Dutch Wilders supporter threatens immigrant MP’s life

Dibi reports StopLinks to the police

Member of Parliament for the Green Left party, Tofik Dibi, will report his enemy’s twitter account, Stoplinks

, to the police. The tweet about him, “Destroy this Moroccan bug! PVV

Geert Wilders’ xenophobic party. Dibi is of Moroccan ancestry.

number one!” goes too far, Dibi says.

He says that he likes to communicate with PVV supporters, but that inciting violence crosses the limit. “Especially in the light of the attacks in Norway,” said Dibi.

Earlier on, the politician asked for a debate about the links between the ideas of the perpetrator of the attacks in Norway and ideas which exist in our country, for example among PVV voters.

Australian sea-eagle nest webcam

This is a white-bellied sea eagle video.

From BirdLife:

The eagles have landed (online)

Fri, Jul 29, 2011

Birds Australia (BirdLife Partner) have launched EagleCAM – a live 24-hour remote video feed brought to you from the Discovery Centre in Sydney. It provides scientists, researchers and bird lovers with unique insight into the habits of a pair of nesting White-bellied Sea-Eagle Haliaeetus leucogaster. …

Right now the sea-eagles are sitting on two eggs, and are taking turns to closely guard the nest through rain, wind, hail and shine. The eggs, which were laid in early July, are due to hatch in mid August.

A budding internet phenomenon, Birds Australia’s (BirdLife Partner) nest monitoring camera has been transmitting live online footage of a family of White-bellied Sea-Eagles in Sydney since early August: here.

Members of Birds Australia (BirdLife Partner) and Bird Observation & Conservation Australia (BOCA) recently voted on whether our two organisations should merge. Members of both organisations voted for the merger to create ‘BirdLife Australia’: here.

European xenophobes support Breivik

French neo-fascist officials endorse Norway atrocities

29 July 2011

Members of far-right parties across Europe have endorsed the mass killing last Friday carried out by a right-wing anti-Islamic extremist in Norway, Anders Breivik. At least 76 people were killed in a bombing in Oslo and at a youth camp of the social-democratic Labour Party on nearby Utoya Island.

Two prominent members of France’s neo-fascist Front National (FN), Jacques Coutela and Laurent Ozon, published blog posts defending the mass killings carried out by Breivik, a former member of the fascistic Progress Party in Norway. Prior to the killings, Breivik posted messages expressing hatred of Muslims and immigrants. He also denounced “cultural Marxism” and “multiculturalism,” as obstacles to the defence of national culture.

Coutela, who was an FN candidate in the Yonne district in the March 2011 cantonal elections, praised Breivik on his blog as a “resistance fighter.” He added that Breivik was “the first defender of the West” and “Charles Martel II”—a reference to the medieval Frankish king Charles Martel, who repelled Muslim armies invading southern France through Spain at the battle of Poitiers in 732.

Coutela wrote, “He’s not an icon, but simply a visionary facing the rising Islamization of Europe, with the complicity of our governments and of [European Union authorities in] Brussels.” He called for the mass expulsion of “these miscreants who want to impose hallal meat, mosques, paedophilia, and the occupation of our streets.”

Similarly Ozon, who was appointed by FN leader Marine Le Pen to the FN’s political committee, posted messages on Twitter supporting Breivik’s action. He wrote that to “explain the drama in Oslo” one had to cite “the explosion of immigration: it went up by a factor of six between 1970 and 2009.”

In Italy, the Berlusconi government’s conservative coalition partner, the far-right separatist Northern League, also defended Breivik’s fascistic views. Francesco Speroni, a leading member of the Northern League, said “Breivik’s ideas are in defence of western civilization.”

The defence of Breivik’s views and of his terror attack by the FN and other European extreme right-wing parties are a serious warning to the working class. They express the neo-fascists’ violent hostility to immigrants and to any organization they perceive—however incorrectly, in the case of Norway’s Labour Party—as having socialist policies.

In the aftermath of the mass killing in Norway, the FN has cynically tried to distance itself from the killing. On Sunday FN leader Marine Le Pen declared, “The National Front obviously has nothing to do with the Norwegian massacre, which is the work of a solitary unbalanced person that will have to be mercilessly punished.”

On Tuesday, the FN announced that Coutela had been temporarily suspended from party activities. FN general secretary Steeve Briois told AFP that Coutela had been “suspended today from his position, pending appearance before a disciplinary commission.” Ozon has not been subjected to any sanction so far, however.

In suspending Coutela, the FN is trying to win support in the media and the political establishment by posing as a “responsible” party. This strategy has had some success in the official media, which has sought to promote the FN since Marine Le Pen took over as party leader in January.
